Slow to start Gedit, i mean really slow, i found other people with this issue, no solution though, and gedit takes about 8 seconds according to time, or enough time for compiz to grey it out, on a dual core with 2gb of ram thats fairly shocking for a text editor.
to fix, disable the file browser pane plugin in gedit.
